Valle de Bravo is one of the most beautiful colonial towns of Mexico because of its natural beauty, warm climate and majestic scenery. It is located 156 km Southwest of Mexico City, on the shore of Lake Avandaro, surrounded by pine covered mountains. It is an immediately appealing place with terracotta-tiled roofs, iron balconies and cobbled streets. Valle also lies in the wintering grounds of the monarch butterfly where Piedra Herrada Sanctuary is the newest spot opened for viewing the monarchs. This area is "wilder" than other sanctuaries and often provides a more remote nature experience. The butterflies arrive in November and remain largely inactive until undertaking the return trip north in mid-March. The House of Prayer of Maranathá used to be a Carmelite convent, but today is open to people of all faiths. Its interior is richly decorated by artistic works. Enjoy seeing this fusion of elements of Byzantine, Mediterranean, Mexican Baroque and Asian architecture.
